Join Pastor Char on our “maiden voyage” into distance/online worship.  The Sunday Bulletin is available here for viewing and/or downloading.  “Everything is in print: call to worship, meditation, prayers, hymn lyrics.”  Our Pastor neither slumbers nor sleeps – for which we give thanks and offer prayers for her Peace and Strength and Wellness in these days and weeks.

Reach out to your neighbors and friends … that’s a win-win proposition for all of us. Each of us must do whatever it takes to protect ourselves and each other from sickness and social isolation and economic distress. It takes a village, fill in the blanks with your own mantra _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

LETTER TO THE CONGREGATION 3-13-2020 ─ Effective immediately, worship services and other activities are canceled for some period of time.  Right now, the essential weekly community meetings of AA and the Ecumenical Food Pantry will continue at the church.
The letter dated 3/13/2020 begins
“March 13, 2020 ~ Dear Members and Friends of The 2nd Congregational Church Body,

After much consideration, and with input from the Maine UCC, our Church Leadership has decided to cancel Worship Services through the end of the month of March. We will assess our actions going forward. We are also actively looking into ways to provide services thorough teleconferencing or other means and will provide more information as it evolves. All Lenten Bible Studies and Church events are cancelled…”  The complete text is available here.

Morning Star Certificate

CERTIFICATE OF DONATION FOR THE STEAMSHIP “MORNING STAR” ? SERENDIPITY STRIKES: Back in 1884, the Sunday School of Second Congregational Church made a donation to help finance the construction of a barkentine ship to to serve as a supply ship for missions, clinics and settlements in the South Pacific. Many of us have noticed the handsome certificate hanging above the couch in our Parlor, but not many have known the story. Thanks to Steve Ward, we now have both the story and a lovingly conserved lithograph back in place for all to enjoy. Steve noticed the signature of his great-grandfather on the certificate and took steps to conserve the lithograph – this is a wonderful gift!

Steve provided some background information with illustrations?that is very informative – check it out here?(a PDF file will open in a new browser window).

WEEKLY E-MAIL: Currently the church sends out a weekly e-mail ~ the SECOND Snippets ~ that highlights what’s happening this week and in the near future. Anyone wishing to receive these e-mails – or wishing to be removed from the distribution list (which use “blind cc’s” to shield recipients’?e-mail addresses) – should send an e-mail to the Snippets editor.
